The Politics of Obedience — The Discourse of Voluntary Servitude by Étienne de la Boétie

Men are like handsome race horses who first bite the bit and later like it,” and even “learn to enjoy displaying their harness and prance proudly beneath their trappings.” They “grow accustomed to the idea that they have always been in subjection, that their fathers lived in the same way; they will think they are obliged to suffer this evil, and will persuade themselves by example and imitation of others, finally investing those who order them around with proprietary rights, based on the idea that it has always been that way.” Read on…

Judicial Misfit, Judge Vincent Lopinot, does it again.

Once again, a St. Clair County Judge has exhibited callousness and arrogance in refusing to follow the law; this time against my niece when appearing in his court for a seat belt violation. Judge Vincent Lopinot, of the Twentieth Judicial Circuit bullied Melissa McCoy into taking a fine for a seat belt ticket which was never lawfully charged and denied here right to be heard when challenging the veracity of the offense. The Collinsville, Illinois Business License Ordinance

McCoy Letter to Herald for Business License

Subsequent to those conversations, I appeared at a City Council meeting after over 2 years having passed since I refused to procure a business license. During that meeting, I demanded an interpretation on the applicability of the ordinance and if I were so obligated, then the City should arrest, prosecute, and fine me to the tune of over $233,000. Understanding how you not only marry your spouse, you marry the State.

He said, first of all, the marriage license is Secular Contract between the parties and the State. The State is the principal party in that Secular Contract. The husband and wife are secondary or inferior parties. The Secular Contract is a three– way contract between the State, as Principal, and the husband and wife as the other two legs of the Contract. Read on…

The real slumlords — Government leading by example

The Aim to Repeal Home Rule for Collinsville

The people of Collinsville just recently avoided a draconian Occupancy Permit Ordinance and Crime Free Ordinance thanks to the combined efforts of local activists and concerned citizens. This issue is not over by any stretchy of the imagination. The proponents of this ordinance are regrouping and crafting a new ordinance as I type. They are taking all of the input from the dissenters and massaging the legalese to work on fears and prejudices of the masses. Read on…
